In Ancient China, there were many contributions that they made, or discovered. These contributions are still used today in medical fields, by scientists, or even people like us, on a regular basis. Some items that you use almost every single day is made or discovered from Ancient China, and you might not even know it!
One major contribution in Ancient China was the invention of paper. Before it was invented, the Chinese would write on silk, which could easily be rolled up into scrolls. Since it was so expensive, they would also write on bamboo. They would write their symbols vertically on the bamboo. Even though bamboo was cheaper than silk, it was bulky and awkward to use. But, when the Chinese did invent paper, there were many materials that were used, such as silk fibers, hemp, bamboo, straw, and seaweed.
Another important invention from the Chinese was the seismograph. The seismograph is an instrument used to detect earthquakes. The first Chinese seismograph was a circular machine made of bronze. While using this machine, people of the Han Dynasty would be able to detect earthquakes from up to several hundred miles away.
During Ancient China, they also invented the compass, which is an instrument used to determine direction, such as which way in north or south, or east or west. The Chinese used a compass to determine where to put the temples, graves, and homes, because putting them in the correct spot would bring good luck, as they believed.
Silk was another important invention made by the Chinese. It was used for trading, mainly in the Silk Road. To make the silk, the Chinese discovered to take the fibers taken from the cocoon of the silkworm. While using this process, the Chinese were able to create a product that is strong, but also warm, light, and soft.
The Chinese had also discovered some techniques for medicine. One major one was acupuncture, where you would take thin needles and insert them into certain parts of the body. This technique was used for curing illnesses that were short, such as headaches.
